Earlier start for technician registration

The Society intends to begin the statutory registration of pharmacy technicians as soon as possible after the Section 60 Order comes into force rather than waiting until 2007 as previously agreed. The April Council meeting was informed that the Department of Health regulatory bodies branch wanted statutory registration to begin with a two-year transitional period during which “grandparent” arrangements would apply, whereas the Society’s existing policy had foreseen a two-year grandparent clause period leading up to statutory regulation. Without a change of policy, the Society’s grandparent clause period would now have to run for four years instead of two.
