Cod liver oil

Is cod liver oil at risk?

From Mr A. F. Powrie, MRPharmS

The article by Onlooker regarding discarding of fishing catches to meet landing quota requirements (PJ, 20 March, p362) made interesting and thoughtful reading. This, plus the recent news regarding the further demise of the Scottish fishing fleet and the demand for a further reduction in cod catches, poses the question: “Where will our cod liver oil come from now?”

Forbes Powrie
Ipswich, Suffolk

P. J. SHOTTER, managing director, Seven Seas Ltd, replies:

All Seven Seas cod liver oil comes from the sustainable Arctic fisheries of Iceland and Norway. The EU decision on cod quotas refers to North Sea cod, which is under severe pressure.
