Queen's awards for enterprise winners
Several companies in the pharmaceutical sector were awarded Queen's awards for enterprise at a ceremony in London this week, ranging from manufacturers of vending machines to insulated shipping systems.
The vending-machine manufacturer Supply Point Systems won an award in the innovation
category for a computer-controlled dispensing system that can be used for pharmaceutical
products.
The system consists of electronically controlled drawers and cupboards designed
to be placed on production lines or in offices and pharmacies, providing storage
locations for a range of products. Supply Point Systems say that current users
include GlaxoSmithKline and Johnson & Johnson.
Nicobrand, manufacturer of ingredients for anti-smoking products such as nicotine
lozenges, won an award for international trade after the company’s overseas
earnings quadrupled over a three-year period.
International trade awards were also given to: Total Healthcare Solutions, the
pharmaceutical and health services management consultancy whose clients include
the top 10 pharmaceutical companies; Wassen International, a manufacturer of
nutritional supplements; Dishman, the European distributor of pharmaceutical
ingredients produced by its parent company in India; and Laminar Medica, which
supplies insulated shipping systems for vaccines and drugs.
Nearly 5,000 awards have been granted since the scheme was launched in 1965.
This year, 112 awards were announced, including 39 for innovation and 66 for
international trade. |
