Generics inhalers
Generics (UK) has issued a reminder to pharmacists to advise patients of the importance of “test firing” before using a Generics (UK) CFC-propelled salbutamol inhaler for the first time. This follows reports of sticking or squeaking valves on first use of the inhaler (PJ, 18 October p535). Further details from the company’s medical information department on 01707 583000.

University of Bath grant
The University of Bath has been awarded a £4.16m research grant by Sterix. Barry Potter, from the department of pharmacy and pharmacology, has been given the grant to work on developing new drugs based on steroids and related molecules. The grant will support about 20 staff over the next three years.

Men and pharmacy
Developing Patient Partnerships and the Consumer Health Information Centre are seeking photographs of pharmacy window displays used to encourage men to come into the pharmacy for health advice and treatments, as part of their “Pop down your local” campaign to be launched on 29 April. The winner will receive £500, and two runners up will receive £250. Photographs should be sent to Marianne McGlynn at Developing Patient Partnerships, Tavistock House, Tavistock Square, London WC1V 9JP, or e-mailed to mmcglynn@dpp.org.uk. Closing date 21 May.
