The Royal Pharmaceutical Society's honorary auditors have inspected and approved the Society's 2003 financial statements.
The five honorary auditors — John E. Balmford, Ian Caldwell, Richard
Clitherow, Anthony Cox and Brian Wills — met at the Society’s
London offices on Wednesday 14 April 2004. Also present were the President
(Gill Hawksworth), the Treasurer (Linda Stone), the Society’s external
auditors (Horwath Clark Whitehill) and members of the Society’s
finance teams.
The purpose of this meeting was to allow the honorary auditors, who are
elected by the membership, to receive sufficient information to enable
them to understand, inspect and approve the Society’s financial
statements. The finance team gave a detailed presentation and, in particular,
explained the changes in accounting policy as detailed in last week’s
PJ (PDF 45K). They also answered financial questions raised by the honorary auditors
during the meeting.
The external auditors said that the considerable improvements in standards
of accounting meant that they could give an unqualified opinion of the
2003 financial statements and recommend that the accounts be accepted
by the honorary auditors.
The President asked the honorary auditors if they were satisfied with
their examination of the account books and verification of the various
assets of the Society which have been made by the professional auditors.
The honorary auditors confirmed their satisfaction and agreed unanimously
to certify and sign the financial statements.
The Society’s accounts will now be formally presented at the Society’s
annual general meeting on Wednesday 12 May. The AGM guidelines on financial
statements will be reported in The Pharmaceutical Journal before the
AGM.
