Welsh Executive newsletter highlights Society's review of devolution

The spring newsletter published by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Welsh Executive highlights the Society's forthcoming review to ensure that the organisation can meet the needs of devolution.

The newsletter, distributed to all pharmacists in Wales, explains that the review will be carried out by a steering group chaired by Lord Fraser of Carmyllie, who is chairman of the Society’s Statutory Committee. It will also include the current chairmen and vice-chairmen of the Scottish Department and the Welsh Executive and will complete its report late in 2004.

The newsletter adds that the devolution review will be able to take into account the possible changes to the existing powers of the Welsh Assembly that were recommended by the Richard Commission report on 31 March.

Other topics examined in the four-page publication include the action plan for the Welsh pharmacy strategy. The newsletter also includes a profile of Sarah Hiom, the all-Wales specialist pharmacist for research and development.

Cath O’Brien, secretary to the Welsh Executive, said: “Our newsletter continues to provide up-to-date information about pharmacy to all sectors of the profession. This is proving to be a useful and informative means of communicating with all pharmacists in Wales.”

The newsletter is the third in a twice-yearly series, all of which can be accessed on the executive website.
