Sanofi and Aventis agreement

Sanofi-Synthélabo and Aventis are to form a new company, Sanofi-Aventis, if the shareholders of Aventis agree to an offer made by Sanofi-Synthélabo.

The management and supervisory boards of Aventis recommended this week that shareholders accept the €55bn offer. The decision has brought merger negotiations between Novartis and Aventis to an end.
