Call for applicants for award for cross-sector NHS projects

Pharmacists wishing to develop evidence-based services that bridge the divide between the hospital and community sectors are invited to apply for an award from the joint National Pharmaceutical Association-Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists scheme, which is endorsed by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

The award scheme, now in its sixth year, is funded by Merck Sharp & Dohme and is worth £5,000. Successful applicants use the money to create a service with a robust design so that outcomes can be easily analysed. The 2003–04 winning project “Smoking cessation pharmacy services: development of continuous care between secondary and primary care”, based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and Lambeth Primary Care Trust, London, has only just started to recruit patients because of the time and effort devoted to ensuring that the project will reveal meaningful results.

The closing date for this year’s award is 3 September. For further details contact Colin Hitchings on 01462 621145.
