Awards seminar is showcase for pharmacists’ practice research

The work of seven researchers who had all received funding from the Practice Research Awards and Research Training Bursary Scheme was showcased on 21 April at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s headquarters.

Seminar chairman Professor Michael Schofield, left, with Susan Hind, Philip Bates, Rachel Mullen, Jon Silcock, Catherine Duggan, Charles Morecroft and Nicola Gray

The work was presented at a seminar organised by the Pharmacy Practice Research Trust, a charity that receives its core funding from the Society. The audience of pharmacy researchers and policy makers heard presentations on a broad range of research topics given by Jonathan Silcock (2002 Galen award), Rachel Mullen (2002 Sir Hugh Linstead fellowship), Susan Hind (2002 research training bursary), Charles Morecroft (2001 Sir Hugh Linstead fellowship), Philip Bates (2001 Sir Hugh Linstead fellowship), Catherine Duggan (on behalf of Claire Bateson, 2001 Galen award) and Nicola Gray (1996 and 1997 Sir Hugh Linstead fellowship).

Sue Ambler, director of the Pharmacy Practice Research Trust and head of research and development for the Society, said: “The trustees and staff at the trust are committed to creating knowledge that is relevant to policy making and practice development in pharmacy. The awards seminar is one of a growing number of events in the trust’s programme that bring together researchers and decision-makers offering an opportunity to turn knowledge into know-how.”
