Botox for enlarged prostate

Injections of botulinum toxin A (Botox) into the prostate may offer an alternative treatment for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia, say researchers.

They tested the treatment in 11 men with symptomatic disease that had not responded to treatment with an alpha-blocker. Most of the men reported improvements in symptoms and maximal urine flow rate was increased.

Data were presented at the annual meeting of the American Urological Association in San Francisco earlier this week.
