First candidates gain new NVQ certificates in pharmacy services

David Rose, chief executive of Hereford Hospitals NHS Trust, presents the NVQ certificates to Janette Hardiman (centre) and Christine Hawkes

Two pharmacy team members became the first in the UK to complete a new National Vocational Qualification level 2 in pharmacy services last week. The successful candidates are Janette Hardiman of Hereford County Hospital and Christine Hawkes of Worcester Royal Hospitals.

Janet Flint, head of support staff regulation at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, commented: “This qualification forms the basis of the Society’s minimum competence requirement for dispensing/pharmacy assistants that will apply from 2005. We are encouraged by feedback from training providers that students who have started the training have enjoyed the challenge it presents and that their working practices have developed as a result.”
