Society appoints a project manager to support its devolution review
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has appointed a project manager to help with the devolution
review announced at the February Council meeting
(PJ, 14 February, p197).
Michele Savage, a parliamentary affairs and policy specialist, will provide
support for
the steering group that will review the Society’s function, structure
and ways of working to ensure that it can meet the needs of devolution.
Issues to be covered in the review include a framework for the devolution
of functions within a Britain-wide organisation, requirements for governance
and accountability, the scope, role of and the structures and processes
for policy-making, and the structure and function of the Scottish Department
and Welsh Executive and their relationships with the Council and the
directorates.
Led by Lord Fraser of Carmyllie (chairman of the Statutory Committee),
the steering group will include the current chairmen and vice-chairmen
of the Society’s Scottish Department and Welsh Executive, members
of Council, the Secretary and Registrar and a constitutional specialist
with expertise in devolution.
The group is expected to complete its report before the end of the year.
The report will form part of the Society’s strategy and business
planning programme.
Ms Savage joined the Society on 10 May from the Association for Spina
Bifida and Hydrocephalus, where she worked as a project co-ordinator.
Before that, she spent two years as parliamentary affairs and policy
manager for the Scottish Society for Autism. She has also worked for
two members of Parliament and a member of the Scottish Parliament.
Ms Savage reports to Rob Darracott, Director of Corporate and Strategic
Development at the Society. He says: “We are obviously pleased
to welcome someone with Michele’s expertise to support our review.
Her experience of different political settings will be invaluable in
helping take this work forward.”
