The profession

Young pharmacists are disillusioned and uninterested

From Mr N. P. S. Sewak, MRPharmS

While attending last week’s annual general meeting of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society it struck me that there was a lack of young and newly qualified pharmacists in attendance. I thought it a pity that there was poor representation of this group, arguably the most influential in the pharmaceutical profession, being just qualified. Their absence reflects the disillusionment and lack of interest in pharmaceutical issues among young pharmacists. Is this because the younger members of the profession feel out of touch with many members of the current Council?

With the Council elections now just finished it would be interesting to see how many newly qualified pharmacists actually voted. I fear the answer would further reinforce the view that many young pharmacists do not feel motivated enough to be involved in the election process because they feel that their vote will not make much difference.
