Society urges young scientists to engage with the media
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is encouraging young pharmaceutical scientists to take part in a special event, “The voice of young scientists in the media”, which takes place on Friday 17 September.
The event, to be held at the Royal Institution in London, has been organised
by the Society in conjunction with Sense About Science, the Health and
Science Communication Trust, the Society for Endocrinology and the Society
for General Microbiology.
The event will include a discussion about science-related controversies
in media reporting, with practical guidance to help younger scientists
make a contribution to such debates.
John Clements, science secretary at the Society, said: “Pharmaceutical
scientists are involved in research work that impacts on millions of
lives every day. It is important that pharmaceutical scientists are well
represented at this exciting event.”
The event is free to attend but places are limited. Postgraduate students,
postdoctoral fellows or equivalent, in their first jobs, who would like
to participate should send a short curriculum vitae and covering letter,
saying why they wish to attend, to Dr John Clements, Science Secretary,
Royal Pharmaceutical Society, 1 Lambeth High Street, London SE1 7JN.
The closing date for applications is 10 June.
