High Court judge awards costs against SOS campaign
Following the summary dismissal of the Save Our Society High Court action against the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and 16 members of its Council, Mr Justice Park has awarded costs against the SOS litigants.
The judge ordered that an initial sum of £30,000 “interim” costs
should be paid
immediately. The final costs have yet to be agreed, and The Journal understands
that
the costs may be awarded on an indemnity basis. The amount is expected
to hinge on the reasons why the SOS campaigners took
action against the 16 individual Council members who voted in favour
of the new Charter, as well as the Society, and the manner in which that
action was pursued.
Graham Phillips, one of the SOS campaigners, commented that the group
had enough money to pay the £30,000 but not enough to cover all
the costs. “We are appealing to the membership for financial support
and hoping that those members who voted us into power will now support
us with their cheque books too.” |
