Society asked for fees review
The branch representatives' meeting asked the Society to review the scale of annual fees payable by members and include a fee for non-working members below retirement age that is more commensurate with that payable by those over retirement age.
Pam Copsey (South Cheshire) said that those under retirement age paid £116
a year and those over retirement age paid £22, even though they
received the same service from the Society. Most of those who put aside
their careers for other commitments wanted to stay in touch with developments
in the profession. But £116 a year seemed a bit expensive.
Christine Robinson (South Cheshire), seconding, noted that a review of
the fee structure was in train. Supporting the motion would give the
Council a clear mandate for change.
Bill Brookes (South Cheshire) said there were people for whom £100
a year was a significant outlay. He paid the lower fee himself but found
it strange that members less affluent than him had to pay a higher fee.
