Branch committee members awarded certificates for long service

Twelve members of Royal Pharmaceutical Society branch committees have recently been awarded certificates recognising long service in their local area.

The certificates are awarded under a scheme introduced in 2001. Members must have served at least 15 years on a branch or regional committee to be nominated for a certificate by their committee. The certificates are signed by the President and are normally presented at a meeting of the branch or region.

John Packham, of the Bedfordshire branch, has received a certificate to mark his involvement with the branch committee for many years and his commitment to keeping the branch active.

Stephen Freeborn has been a Bolton branch committee member continuously since 1981. He is the only person since the 1939–45 war to have served as chairman on three occasions.

Barbara Hanson has been a Crawley, Horsham and Reigate branch committee member for more than 15 years and has served as branch treasurer.

Malcolm Almond retired last year from the committee of the Halifax branch and from editorship of the branch newsletter after more than 20 years on the committee. He has been branch chairman on two occasions.

David Evans recently started his 18th consecutive year on the Ipswich branch committee. In his time on the committee he has been the chairman and also the regional committee representative.

John Hemensley has served almost continuously as an Isle of Man branch committee member since 1981 and has been chairman and public relations officer.

Murray Winer has been a member of the Leeds branch committee since 1975 and was chairman from 1979 to 1981. He has also served as branch newsletter editor.

Peter Hopley has served on the Northumbrian branch committee for more than 20 years. He has twice served as chairman.

Richard Cox joined the Teesside branch committee of the Society in 1959 and has been chairman three times. He was a founder member of the Border region committee in 1969–71 and has served as its chairman.

Peter Walton has served on the West Cumberland branch committee since 1975 and has been chairman, secretary, treasurer, public relations officer and careers officer.

Paresh Modasia has been involved in the West Metropolitan branch committee for over 20 years and has served as chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer.

David Mottram has been a member of the Wirral branch committee continuously for 22 years. He has been chairman twice and treasurer for the past three years.
