President asked to endorse petition to Privy Council to seek rejection of proposed Charter
Mark Walker, from Oxford, has written an open letter to the President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to ask for the Society to endorse a petition to the Privy Council. The new petition seeks the rejection of the Council's proposed new Charter. The action follows the passing
of Mr Walker’s motion to send the petition at this year’s
annual general meeting of the Society (PJ, 22 May, p652).
In his letter, Mr Walker states that the Secretary and Registrar told
him that the Society’s seal cannot be applied to the petition and
that it should only be sent on behalf of those members who have signed
it. Mr Walker disagrees. He asks that the Society’s Council endorses
the petition and applies the seal to it. “Thus, a united approach
to the Privy Council will be achieved,” he writes.
Mr Walker would like the Council to consider endorsing the petition at
its June meeting, and requests that the petition should then be immediately
sealed and sent.
The Society confirmed that a reply has been sent to Mr Walker. It said
that the Council
will discuss his motion when it considers the report of the AGM at its
June meeting. |
