SPGC establishes chief executive position

A new role of chief executive officer has been created by the Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council. An advertisement for the position appears in this week’s Journal (pA37).

The decision to establish the chief executive position was taken following a comprehensive review of the organisation. Frank Owens, chairman of the SPGC, said that although devolution had created enormous opportunities, it had also presented significant challenges. “It is essential that we, as an organisation, are capable of engaging across all fronts, ensuring that key stakeholders recognise the potential benefits community pharmacy can provide in a modern, efficient, patient-focused health service,” he said.

The appointment of a chief executive officer aims to build the capacity of the SPGC to meet these challenges. It is hoped that the appointment will be made by the early autumn. The role of elected chairman will continue.
