Council elects new team of Officers

The Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has a new President, Vice-President and Treasurer.

At the Council’s meeting on 9 June, Nicholas Wood was elected to succeed Gill Hawksworth as President, Hemant Patel was elected to replace Alison Ewing as Vice-President and John Jolley was elected Treasurer in succession to Linda Stone. Dr Hawksworth, Miss Ewing and Mrs Stone had each been in post for one year, Dr Hawksworth remains an Officer of the Society as its immediate past president.

In the election of the President, Mr Wood received 13 votes and Dr Hawksworth 11. In the election of the Vice-President, Mr Patel received 14 votes and Miss Ewing nine. In the election of the Treasurer, Mr Jolley received 14 votes and Mrs Stone nine.

Mr Wood, who served on the Council from 1985 to 1996 and was elected again last year, has been president previously, in 1992–93, and was vice-president in 1991–92.

Mr Patel, a Council member since 1993, was president for 1998–99 without having previously served as vice-president.

Mr Jolley, newly elected this year, previously served briefly on the Council as a co-opted member from November 1998 to May 1999.

The Council reappointed Ann Lewis as Secretary of the Society.
