Medicines management initiative in Wales
A medicines management collaborative programme was launched this week in Wales. The programme, which is based on the model already in place in England, is intended to improve patient care.
Sian Evans, programme director, commented: “We hope this initiative
will be a huge success and will provide tools and techniques to the service
to improve the way we manage medicines and patient experiences where
medicines are concerned.”
Fifteen local health boards have been selected to participate in the
programme. Each will have a full-time project facilitator and a local
project team. Pharmacists who want to find out more about the programme
should contact the project facilitator or head of pharmacy and medicines
management at their local health board.
The 15 participating local health boards are: Conwy, Flintshire and Wrexham
in north Wales; Caerphilly, Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent and
the Vale of Glamorgan in south Wales; and all boards in mid and west
Wales (Bridgend, Carmarthen, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Neath Port Talbot,
Swansea and Powys). The programme will last for 20 months. Four national
learning workshops are planned during this time so that the teams can
share ideas. |
