NICE to examine drug misuse treatments
Clinical guidelines on the treatment of drug misusers, and assessments of methadone and buprenorphine as opiate substitutes, and the use of naltrexone to prevent relapse are to be produced by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence.
The Department of Health and the Welsh Assembly Government have also
asked NICE to draw up advice for the NHS in England and Wales on methylphenidate
and other interventions for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity
disorder, the care and management of osteoarthritis and management of
faecal incontinence.
Other technology appraisals to be produced as part of NICE’s 10th
work programme include inhaled insulin for the management of type 1 and
type 2 diabetes, various drug therapies for prostate cancer, head and
neck cancer, mesothelioma and colon cancer; therapies for age-related
macular degeneration and for multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis,
osteoporosis; and corticosteroids for asthma. |
