Community Pharmacy Wales four-year vision statement

Community Pharmacy Wales has recently published a vision statement and plan for 2004–08. The plan focuses on maximising the benefit that community pharmacies can bring to communities in Wales, providing services under the new community pharmacy contract such as an accessible minor ailments service and a medicines review and management service. Public health services, including promotion of mental health, smoking cessation and sexual health, will also be provided.

The plan outlines issues that CPW, together with the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee, will aim for over the next four years. These include quality assured pharmacy services such as implementation of a national quality programme for NHS and OTC services, and appropriate remuneration and reimbursement.

It states that CPW seeks to improve communication pathways with the contractors it represents and that it will work to establish an influential position with other key stakeholders in Wales. It will be reviewed annually in January.
