Central NHS targets to be cut

Improved NHS services mean that 42 of the 62 centrally set targets are to be dropped. Instead, service providers are to be allowed to set locally agreed targets.

National targets that remain will include year-on-year reductions in hospital acquired infections (including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), an 18-week maximum waiting time for treatment and helping people manage long-term conditions in their own homes.
