Council united in appealing for support for revised new Charter

Through a “flyer” to be distributed with next week's issue of The Journal, all 24 members of Council are calling on the membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to vote “yes” in the ballot on a revised draft new Royal Charter for the Society.

On one side, the flyer briefly explains that the Society needs a new Charter as part of a modern constitutional framework to take it and the profession into the future. It goes on to say that, with the membership behind it, the draft Charter can go forward in parallel with the legislation that the Government is preparing for the profession through a Section 60 Order under the Health Act 1999.

“ The Council believes that this new Charter is truly fit for the future and will serve the profession and the members well over years to come,” the flyer says. It encourages members to use the narrow window of opportunity available to them to vote “yes”, so that the Charter can go forward to complement the new legislation.

On its other side, the flyer quotes the President, Nicholas Wood, as saying: “The Council’s decision to agree to a revised petition for a new Charter is good for the Society, good for members and good for the public we serve.” It then goes on to offer comments in support of the revised draft from every other Council member — not just those who approved the revised draft at the 30 June Council meeting, but also the member who abstained from voting on that occasion and the two who were unable to be present for the vote.
