Telford pharmacies in chlamydia screening trial

Several pharmacies in Telford, Shropshire, are taking part in a chlamydia screening trial specifically aimed at young men, in conjunction with the Men's Health Forum.

Six local employers are providing free testing kits to their staff, which only requires a urine sample. The sample is sent off for analysis, and the results can be provided by post, e-mail or telephone. If the result is positive the participating pharmacies can supply antibiotics under a patient group direction.

The trial, funded by the Department of Health, the National Pharmaceutical Association and Roche Diagnostics is part of a two year project from the Men’s Health Forum (PJ, 15 February 2003, p219).
