CMO annual report focuses on public health
The state of the public's health is the topic of the annual
report of the Chief Medical Officer in England, published this week.
The CMO, Sir Liam Donaldson, concentrates on five areas in public health:
smoking and skin ageing, the economic benefits of smoke-free public places,
better blood transfusion, academic medicine and earlier detection of
HIV infection. For each of the five areas, he analyses the current situation
and identifies action needed to bring about
improvements.
In addition to the national picture, the
report also identifies a specific issue for action in each of the nine
public health regions in England. The report also reviews progress on
the topics identified in the CMO’s previous annual reports.
