Training for new Medicines Partnership initiative begins

The first 18 pharmacists who will offer medicines advice and support to patients with Parkinson's disease in the community as part of an initiative set up by the Medicines Partnership began their specialist training in disease management earlier this month before the initiative goes live on 23 August.

The training began as the partnership learnt that the scheme had been given Multi-centre Research Ethics Committee approval. The pharmacists come from three primary care trusts — Brighton and Hove City, Coventry and St Helens. If successful, the initiative will be rolled out nationally.

The Medicines Partnership has also announced that it has secured £36,000 from the Department of Health to fund a medication review guide for patients with epilepsy.
