Constipation update

There is insufficient evidence to support the routine use of macrogols over older and less expensive therapies for constipation, according to the MeReC Bulletin (2004;14:21, ).

The latest bulletin, available online (PDF 340K), reviews the management of constipation and concludes that laxatives should be chosen on a case-by-case basis according to symptoms, patient preferences, side effects and cost.
