Lyrica
Composition: Pregabalin
Presentation: Hard capsules
Class: Antiepileptic
Indications: The treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain in adults.
Adjunctive therapy for epilepsy in adults with partial seizures with
or without secondary generalisation.
Dosage: treatment can be started at 150mg per day given in two or three
divided doses. Based on individual response and tolerability, the dose
may be increased to 300mg per day after an interval of three to seven
days (neuropathic pain) or one week (epilepsy), and to a maximum dose
of 600mg per day after an additional seven-day interval. Dose reduction
in patients with compromised renal function must be individualised according
to creatinine clearance. See SPC.
Precautions: If pregabalin has to be discontinued it is recommended that
this should be done gradually over a minimum of one week. Patients with
rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency
or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine. Some
diabetic patients who gain weight on pregabalin treatment may need to
adjust hypoglycaemic medicines.
Side effects: very common (>1/10) dizziness, somnolence, common (>1/100, <1/10)
include increased appetite, ataxia, blurred vision, and erectile dysfunction.
