Free cholesterol test at Boots

Free cholesterol tests for people at risk of heart disease are being offered by Boots the Chemists as part of a new “Kick cholesterol” health promotion campaign.

The free cholesterol tests will be available for people identified to be at risk of heart disease including those aged over 50 years and anyone with a family history of heart disease, along with people who are particularly concerned about their cholesterol level. Boots says that the testing service will be available in most of its branches and that it has provided specialised training for its pharmacists.

The launch follows the pilot of a similar service in which cholesterol measurement was offered free of charge to patients with existing heart disease in three branches of Boots in north west England (PJ, 20 September 2003, p361).
