December debate on new Council supporting structure
The supporting structure for the Society’s future Council is due to be discussed at a Council strategy day in December.
At the August
Council meeting, the Vice-President asked for clarification
on when the issue would be discussed. He would like to see Council members
who had already done some work, including Clive Jackson, present their
ideas to the Council.
The Secretary and Registrar said that the original timetable for consideration
of supporting structures had slipped as a result of work on the Charter.
It was now suggested that Council members should put their views forward
so that they can all be considered at a strategy meeting probably in
December. The underpinning structures would involve complex issues that
required discussion over a full day. The Council needed to be properly
informed by a lot of work, some of which will require an examination
of how other regulators were structured. Single issues should not be
taken in isolation, and the implications of devolution should not be
forgotten.
Bob Michell said that, ahead of the December strategy meeting, he would
welcome a clear and detailed paper from Mr Jackson and any collaborators
he would wish to use.
