Privy Council appointees decide to remain on Council
Two Privy Council appointee members of the Society’s Council have dropped a threat to resign from the Council over progress towards a new Charter.
At the August
Council meeting Bob Michell reminded the Council that in
June he and Phillida Entwistle had said that unless there was realistic
progress with the new Charter, they would have to review whether they
could continue to serve. They had talked about the position, and believed
that there had been realistic progress in that the Council’s modified
draft Charter appeared to be consistent with the sort of expectations
the Government would have of a modern regulator. They therefore believed
that progress has been achieved and there was no reason why they should
not continue to serve.
Dr Entwistle said that she aligned herself totally with what Professor
Michell had said.
The President said that the statement was appreciated and welcomed. He
did not know whether they were speaking also for Michael Schofield but
no doubt the Council would hear from Professor Schofield in due course.
