Packaging

Increasing use of yellow packaging

From Mr C. M. Majoe, MRPharmS

We recently had occasion to point out to an elderly customer to whom we had supplied APS 5 x 28 dothiepin 25mg, 2 x 28 atenolol 50mg and 2 x 28 thyroxine 50µg, that, despite the similarities in the packaging, the medicines were indeed different. Even so, she still made a return visit thinking that one of the items were missing.

Checking off a delivery containing over 100 packets of these generics was also no easy task.

I wonder if the packaging designers for this range have ever worked in a busy dispensary or with the general public, let alone the elderly. APS appears to be increasing its use of yellow packaging for its products (see photograph) and although my staff are constantly vigilant, I wonder whether any of my colleagues have experienced near misses.
