LIFT centre building starts

The construction site of a new £11m NHS one-stop centre in Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, was opened last week by Health Minister John Hutton.

A pharmacy is one of a range of services to be located at the centre. Others include two GP practices, a minor injuries walk-in clinic, outpatient clinics, social services, mental health services, and office space for community and social health teams. The centre is being built as a Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) scheme and is due to open in 2006.

The first LIFT centre is expected to open in east London in September.
