Medicine and driving campaign launched

Driving campaign

Campaign posters are being distributed

A campaign highlighting the effects that some medicines can have on a person's ability to drive has been launched in Scotland this week.

Organised by the Scottish Road Safety Campaign and NHS Scotland, it urges people to check with pharmacists that it is safe to drive while using a particular medicine. Campaign posters, leaflets and pharmacy bag stickers are currently being distributed to pharmacies.

The campaign follows a survey conducted by the RAC last year that found that one in 10 motorists say that they never read the warnings about driving on a medicine’s label. Furthermore, a quarter of motorists admitted that they would drive even if they knew that medicines they were taking could impair their driving.
