European insurance card
A consultation
on the development of a European health insurance card was launched by the Department of Health this week.
The consultation follows an earlier announcement that the new card, already
introduced in some countries, would replace
E111 forms (PJ, 5 June, p698).
It is proposed that the new card will retain the same entitlements as
the E111, show a person’s name, date of birth and personal identification
number, and be free of charge but hold no clinical data. Application
forms for the cards could be made available through pharmacies. |
