Diabetes and antipsychotics

The association between atypical antipsychotics and diabetes might be due to increased testing among patients treated with these drugs.

Researchers compared rates of diabetes testing among patients with schizophrenia and found that testing was more common for those taking clozapine, olanzapine or several antipsychotics than for those on one conventional agent (British Journal of Psychiatry 2004;185:152).
