BNF 48, the latest edition of the British
National Formulary, breaks new ground by including advice on oral and dental problems and how these relate to other problems.
According to Martin Kendall, chairman of the BNF joint formulary committee: “The
advice on oral and dental conditions adds yet another dimension to the
BNF and could save the patient from being referred from one practitioner
to another.”
BNF 48 also includes adjustments to the BNF’s clinical advice,
including:
· Updated advice on intravenous albumin solutions
· Revised advice on bronchodilators and corticosteroids in the management
of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
· Adjusted asthma charts
· Advice on measures to reduce the risk of stroke with risperidone and
olanzapine
Professor Kendall added: “As usual, this new edition has taken
on board important studies, guidelines and changes to the manufacturers’ product
literature.” |
