MPs table motion to oppose contract liberalisation

Worried members of Parliament who believe that Government plans to exempt from contract controls new pharmacies in large shopping developments and internet pharmacies, among others, have tabled a critical motion in the House of Commons.

The MPs believe that the exemptions could put small pharmacies out of business and exacerbate staff shortages. They fear that the change is a step towards full deregulation of the pharmacy market. As The Journal went to press, 29 MPs had signed the motion.
