Tribute

Jones In a tribute to the late Roy Jones (see Column 1), Mair Davies, chairman, Welsh Executive, writes:

I am writing on behalf of the Welsh Executive of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain to express our great sadness at the loss of Roy Jones, FRPharmS. Roy had a vision of bringing the profession of pharmacy together across Wales, which was instrumental in the establishment of Rhanbarth Cymru and the subsequent development of the Welsh Executive on which he served as the first chairman.

Roy was extremely hardworking and dedicated. During his long and distinguished career, he gave endlessly of his time and enthusiasm to numerous organisations. He was chairman of the Welsh Pharmaceutical Students Association, chairman of the Mid Glamorgan (then Ogwr) branch of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, long time chairman of the Mid Glamorgan Pharmaceutical Committee, Royal Pharmaceutical Society court representative of the then University of Wales College of Cardiff, chairman and life member of the National Pharmaceutical Association, and founder member of the College of Pharmacy Practice, to name but a few.

Outside of the profession, Roy was one of the founding members of the Welsh Pharmaceutical Golf Society and was an active member of the Rotary Club and many other charitable organisations.

Roy was a true character and always lived up to his nickname of “Constitution Jones” earned during his time on the students’ union at Cardiff College of Pharmacy back at the beginning of his career. He was a great ambassador and spokesperson for pharmacy in Wales and he will be greatly missed. We extend our sympathies to his wife, Margaret and his family.
