Health care in Scotland to be more inclusive
More inclusive provision of health care in Scotland will soon begin as local health care co-operatives are replaced by community health partnerships.
Participants in an LHCC conference last week heard Fiona Mackenzie, chief
executive of NHS Forth Valley, say that LHCCs had tended to be GP-dominated
and were not always inclusive. She said that the new CHPs will be responsible
for a wide range of community health provision, including GP services,
pharmacy and community nursing. They will ensure that communities, health
care professionals, local authorities and the voluntary sector all work
together to improve health locally and deliver high quality care.
Ms Mackenzie said that there would be effective involvement of all community-based
professionals.
Regulations to establish CHPs came into force on 1 October and they should
take over from LHCCs by 2005. |
