IVG not recommended for MS

Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVG) cannot be recommended for patients with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, say researchers.

In a recent study, IVG, which is under investigation for potential use in multiple sclerosis, showed no clinical benefit in patients with secondary progressive MS. A higher rate of DVT was also seen in the IVG group, suggesting some potential risks with this treatment (Lancet 2004;364:1149).
