Awards recognise achievements in science and pharmacy practice

Three awards were presented at a joint BPC session devoted to the achievements of pharmacists in science and practice.

Bill Dawson, of Bionet, received the Harrison Memorial Medal from Nicholas Wood, President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, and spoke about pharmacy as a bridge between science, industry and practice.

Ian Wong, of the Centre for Paediatric Pharmacy Research at the School of Pharmacy, University of London, received the Chemist & Druggist Practice Research Award from Patrick Grice, C&D’s projects manager, and gave a talk entitled “Pharmacy practice: improving health of children and research priorities related to children’s medicines.”

Jean-Yves Maillard, senior lecturer in pharmaceutical microbiology at the University of Brighton, spoke about understanding the mechanism of action of biocides as a possible way to prevent microbial resistance and was presented with the Conference Science medal by Ruth Duncan, science chairman of BPC 2004.
