Litigation costs have not affected Society’s retention fees for 2005
It was confirmed at the October
Council meeting that the costs of litigation earlier in the year over the Society’s draft new Charter had not contributed to the retention fee increase for 2005.
The matter was raised by Maurice Hickey, who said that he had attended
a meeting of pharmacists at which there had been a belief that fees had
increased because of the cost of the litigation. However, the Secretary
and Registrar and the President had confirmed to him that the Society
was indemnified by its insurers against the costs. The burden of payment
fell upon the other four litigants.
Mr Hickey continued: “Some pharmacists wish to appeal to other
pharmacists on compassionate grounds to assist the four pharmacists whose
action, whatever any of us think of it, was taken — .”
Mr Hickey was then interrupted by cries of: “This is out of order.”
The President confirmed that the Society had indemnity insurance to cover
its costs. However, he said, the whole issue was still under the court,
and he ruled any further debate out of order. |
