Branches asked for their views on devolution
The Society’s branches are being encouraged to contribute to the consultation on how the organisation should evolve to embrace devolution in Scotland and Wales.
At the October
Council meeting, Michele Savage, project manager for the
devolution review, said that the consultation
document would be sent
out to the branches, as well as being published in The Pharmaceutical
Journal (PJ, 9 October, p543) and on the Society’s website
Asked about the position of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man,
Ms Savage said that they did not necessarily fit into the review at the
moment because, with their separate legal systems, they were already
very much devolved. But they would be borne in mind as the review looked
into devolution in more depth.
The Secretary and Registrar said that, although the Channel Islands and
the Isle of Man, with their separate administrations, were not part of
devolution within Britain, they would have the opportunity to comment.
At the Society’s meeting of branch and regional secretary on 13
October she would make the point to the Channel Island and Manx branches.
Asked how many branches had taken up the offer of speakers on devolution,
Ms Savage said that so far there were eight or nine branches, mainly
in Scotland and Wales. She hoped that, through the branch secretaries’ meeting,
the Society could engage more with the English branches, because devolution
affected them too. The offer was there for her to go speak to other branches. |
