Pass rate 71.4pc in autumn registration examination
The pass rate in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s autumn registration examination this year is 71.4 per cent, well below the 91.3 per cent in the main summer examination.
Last year’s figures were 82.4 per cent in summer and 80.5 per cent
in autumn.
The number of autumn candidates this year was 266, of whom 190 were successful.
In the separate section of calculation questions, which candidates have
to pass in addition to passing the examination as a whole, 224 candidates
(84.2 per cent) were successful.
The mean percentage scores for the different components of the examination
were as follows: overall 76 (range 39–96); closed
book 80 (range
44–97); open book 72 (range 34–95); calculations 80 (range
25–100).
The mean percentage scores for the individual syllabus sections were
as follows: Section 1 (professional and legal practice) part
I (professional
practice of a pharmacy) 77, part II (legal aspects of providing a pharmaceutical
service) 78; section 2 (clinical and pharmaceutical practice) part
I (clinical practice) 75, part II (pharmaceutical aspects of practice)
63; section 3 (systems and procedures) 77.
Of this year’s 266 candidates, 217 were UK graduates or sandwich
course students, of whom 153 (70.5 per cent) passed and 64 (29.5 per
cent) failed. The remaining 49 candidates were pharmacists from overseas
seeking to register through the adjudicating route. Of these, 37 (75.5
per cent) passed and 12 (24.5 per cent) failed. For 38 of the 76 candidates
who failed, this examination was their first attempt. For 31 of these
candidates it was the second attempt, and for seven it was their third
and final attempt.
