David Thurston named Science Chairman for BPC 2006

David Thurston, professor of anticancer drug design and director of the CR-UK Gene Targeted Drug Design Research Group at the School of Pharmacy, University of London, has been appointed Science Chairman for the 2006 British Pharmaceutical Conference.

Professor Thurston is also chief scientific officer of Spirogen Ltd. He has recently been a member of the Grants Committee of the Association for International Cancer Research and a member of the Committee on Safety of Medicines. He has also chaired the chemistry, pharmacy and standards subcommittee of the CSM.

Professor Thurston was a member of the national panels for “unit 9 (pharmacy)” during both the 1992 and 1996 research assessment exercises. He has been the chairman and a member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences committee.

Professor Thurston said: “I am delighted to have been appointed Science Chairman for BPC 2006. I believe that with my experience in both the scientific and regulatory areas of pharmacy, and through my continued work in community practice, where I have been recently involved with pilot repeat prescribing and electronic transmission of prescription projects, I can bring a valuable contribution to the 2006 conference programme.”
