Clinical trials warning issued

Pharmaceutical companies have been told to publish clinical trial results voluntarily or face possible sanctions.

Lord Warner, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health, has reminded the industry to honour its Pharmaceutical Industry Competitiveness Task Force agreement in 2001 to publish clinical trial data (PJ, 31 March 2001, p411).

“ We are absolutely clear that we expect to see faster progress if alternative measures are not to be contemplated,” the minister said.

The director general of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, Richard Barker, said that this needed global co-ordination.
