PSNC hits back over criticism of new contract negotiation
The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee has hit back over criticisms about the impact of the new contract on small pharmacies.
The PSNC issued a statement this week which stated: “Much of the
debate on the new contract in the pages of the pharmacy press has been
dominated by the impact of the funding proposals on the very small proportion
of contractors that dispense fewer than 2,000 items a month. In total
they will comprise fewer than 700 pharmacies and this figure includes
Essential Small Pharmacy Scheme pharmacies and many owned by multiple
retailers. Only a small number are independently owned businesses whose
principle income comes from NHS services.”
However, the PSNC acknowledges that a small number of contractors have
real concerns. “The PSNC will seek to work with them and their
local pharmaceutical committees, particularly those in London where the
majority of low volume pharmacies are located,” it says.
The PSNC adds that it hopes that the criticism of the contract by a small
number of individuals will end now contractors have voted in favour of
it. |
